FAQ:-
-
Which caste is majority in Assam?
Assam does not have a majority caste as it is a diverse state with many ethnic groups and castes. The state is home to several indigenous communities such as Assamese, Bodo, Karbi, Missing, Deori, Tiwa, Rabha etc. In addition, there is also a significant population of Bengalis, Nepalis and Marwaris. The Assamese, who are native speakers of the Assamese language, are the largest community in the state, followed by the Bengalis. However, it is important to note that caste-based statistics are not available in India as the collection of such data is prohibited by law.
-
Is OBC is higher than SC in Assam?
It is not appropriate to view any caste as “highest” or “superior” because such hierarchies are based on discriminatory beliefs and practices that have been officially abolished in India. The Indian Constitution guarantees equal rights and opportunities to all citizens irrespective of their caste or community. So both OBC and SC community are equal in Assam. However, it is worth noting that both OBCs and SCs are considered disadvantaged groups in India and are entitled to reservation benefits in education and employment.
