बिहार राज्य के सन्दर्भ में केंद्र सरकार तीन वर्गो (अनुसूचित जाति, अनुसूचित जनजाति और अन्य पिछड़ा वर्ग) की सूची जारी की है।

बिहार राज्य में सरकारी पदों व सेवाओं की रिक्तियों और शैक्षणिक संस्थानों में आरक्षण (अनुसूचित जनजातियों, अनुसूचित जातियों व अन्य पिछड़ा वर्गों के लिए) अधिनियम में संशोधन किया गया है. नए स्वरूप के तहत अनुसूचित जनजाति को 2%, अनुसूचित जाति को 20%, अत्यंत पिछड़ा वर्ग को 25%, पिछड़ा वर्ग को 18% और आर्थिक रूप से कमजोर वर्ग (EWS) को 10% आरक्षण मिलेगा.

वर्तमान में, केंद्र सरकार की नौकरियों और शैक्षणिक संस्थानों में अनुसूचित जाति (एससी), अनुसूचित जनजाति (एसटी), अन्य पिछड़ा वर्ग (ओबीसी), आर्थिक रूप से कमजोर वर्गों के लिए आरक्षण प्रतिशत क्रमशः 15%, 7.5%, 27% और 10% है।
